Building Our Dream Home: The Journey Begins
We bought land!
After years of dreaming, we finally decided to put down even deeper roots here in Omaha and build our forever home. This city has given us so much—community, opportunity, and a sense of belonging—and we knew there was no better place to grow. As a houseplant lover, designing a home that could support and celebrate that passion was a top priority. That meant planning for large, light-filled windows, open spaces with natural airflow, and even a dedicated plant nook where all my green beauties can thrive. From the very beginning, we’ve approached every design decision with intentionality—creating a space that nurtures both our family and the life we’re cultivating inside.

We’ve officially embarked on one of the most exciting adventures of our lives—building our dream home from the ground up! It’s a process that’s both exhilarating and overwhelming, filled with endless decisions and a whole lot of Pinterest scrolling. From floor plans to finishes, we’re learning just how much love and thought goes into every square inch of a custom home. While there’s still a long road ahead, we’re starting to see our vision come to life, one choice at a time.
One of the most thrilling parts so far has been choosing the front door. It might seem like a small detail compared to things like flooring or kitchen cabinets, but the front door is the first impression your home makes. We wanted something that felt timeless, unique, and truly reflective of our personal style. After looking at what felt like a million options, we discovered Door & More—and it was a total game-changer.
Door & More offers an incredible selection of high-quality, beautifully crafted doors that suit every style from modern minimalist to classic farmhouse. What really stood out to us was how customizable their options are. I was very concerned about being able to find an oversized door (we need a 9’ door!) while still staying within budget. Whether you’re dreaming of elegant glass panels, warm wood tones, or bold painted finishes, they make it easy to find the perfect statement piece – even at oversized dimensions. We felt like we weren’t just picking a door—we were choosing a centerpiece for our home’s entire exterior design.
As we walked through samples and envisioned our future entryway, Door & More made the process seamless. Their customer service was incredibly knowledgeable, helping us understand the details we hadn’t considered—like energy efficiency, hardware compatibility, and weather resistance. Every step of the way, we felt supported and inspired, not rushed or overwhelmed.
Another major perk we discovered? Their VIP program is specifically designed for builders, designers, and tradespeople. It offers better pricing for those in the field, including exclusive discounts on Door & More’s own products and the ability to earn points toward future purchases. As we work with contractors on this home, it’s been amazing to recommend a platform that truly supports the professionals helping bring our vision to life. Plus, Door & More offers a wide range of home commodities alongside their brand—giving us a one-stop platform for exterior products beyond just doors.
Choosing our front door through Door & More felt like more than checking off a box on our homebuilding to-do list. It felt like a meaningful milestone—our first “hello” to the world from the house we’re creating with so much care. It’s amazing how one detail can set the tone for everything else, and we’re already imagining all the seasonal wreaths, welcome mats, and happy memories we’ll be framing with it for years to come.
There’s still so much ahead in this journey, and we can’t wait to bring you along as we make more decisions, face surprises, and celebrate progress. From major moments to small details, we’re savoring every part of this process. If you’re building, renovating, or just daydreaming about your future front door, we can’t recommend Door & More enough—they’ve truly helped us start our dream home off on the right foot.
